  • Rendering artifacts with ‘mask shape’ filter – need advice

    Hi-

I’ve created a 6 minute DV 4:3 sequence with multiple fades in & out to black. I then nested the video sequence. As I have included many stabilized shots, AND as the piece is to be shown via projector ( read: no action safe, it projects the entire frame), I wish to mask both left and right as well as top and bottom to hide the crazy frame jitter. Originally the piece was to be show on a tv monitor and then I simply applied the Widescreen letterbox matte masking top and bottom. This worked perfectly. But when applying the additional mask ( via mask shape in FCP filters) to also mask off the left & right which the projector will also show, every time I render it out I get some wavy-type of artifacts where the mask shape coincides with fade ups and down to black in the sequence. After repeated attempts, I cannot get rid of the above described errors. What am I doing wrong?

FCP 5.0.4, NTSC DV easy set up.

    Clues are most welcome…

    Thanks,

    Peter Tooke

Why not try using the crop feature in the motion tab?

    david,

why not indeed… works perfectly, brain dead pete says thanks for the splash in the face. All though the problem of the mask shape perplexes and will no doubt return some inopportune moment.

    best regards,

    peter
