Talking Animals
Posted by Ntgeek on December 4, 2006 at 4:25 pmGetting more and more creative these days, I looked at my cat and had thoughts of being able to animate his mouth in such a way that it would make him look as if he were talking.
Do any of you know of any commercially available packages that could make this happen. It thought it would be really cool do to.

December 4, 2006 at 8:26 pmThanks Mike,
I have that software in my inventory. The big problem with that software is that you need to start off with a still image.
So lets say we shoot a video of a horse walking from one side of the screen to the other and we want him to say something, or appear to say something. What would we use then.
Is anybody aware of any commercially available software yet that would permit us to do this?
Regards,
Wakt

December 4, 2006 at 10:49 pmMaybe a longshot, but can you mask the talking mouth from the still (from Crazy Talk) then track/corner pin that to the walking horse head. Depends of the shots I guess. Maybe someone knows of a slick 3D program for this, but I’d think that would still involve tracking.

I know your pain too well.
There is a product called Elastic Reality which has been absorbed into Avid. I dont know if its even available as a plugin for anything Adobe and I have not been able to see what it can spit out in terms of quality. The stuff that I have seen looks cartoonish.
I know what you are saying with crazytalk. Essentially, the latest one allows you to move stuff around. The theory here would be to take that tiny bit and animate it, use something like After Effects, etc., to cut out just the part you want, then lay it over the relevant portions. About the only problem I see here is that, well, what happens if our friend decides to change from left to right. Talk about frame by frame nightmare.
I am going to see what I can dig up in terms of elastic reality and see if its really worth the bucks.
