hdv mulitcam
when i try to mulitcam edit my hdv footage in finalcut my viewer only show me 1 angle that is selected in my canvas.
this might sound like jiberish so i will break down my workflow to see if anyone can give me solutions.
1 line up inpoints on clip A & clip B
2 create mulitclip
3 place multiclip on timeline
so far so good now time to see both angles4 both angles showing in viewer and selected clip shows in canvas
5 when i press play in canvas i lose the mulit angle view in the viewer.
what am i doing wrong ? when i follow the same procedure with sd footage it works like a dream, but not with Hdv footage. -

Does multicam work correctly with HDV? From what I understand, you can only get one stream of HDV due to the load placed on the processors to play HDV.
You really want to get out of the HDV codec before editing and I recommend the DVCPro HD codec instead. With a fast Fibre Channel array, you can play up to 9 streams of DVCPro HD.

how do i change to the dvcpro codec ?
do i have to export using quick time conversion after capture
or can i capture straight to the dvcpro codec .
please can you outline the capture settings ? -

Easiest way is to capture directly to the DVCPro HD codec via a card like the AJA Kona series.

i have being using either the easy set up capture settings or i often use audio video settings
hdv 1080i 50 for pal projects capture & sequence
I just used the apple intermediate codec and my multi cam works like usual
you said i should use the dvcpro codec, is that better quality than the apple intermediate
and what are the benefits?

If you don’t want to front the money for a Kona card, you might just be able to convert all your media through the media manager. I’ve never done this with HD though, so I can’t tell you whether or not this would take an insane amount of time when compared to recapturing.
