Ultimatte AdvantEdge — render solutions?
I’ve been testing chroma key plug-ins for a project that involves at least an hour’s worth of chrom a keys. By far, Ultimatte’s AdvantEdge pulls the best key, but it takes forever and a day to render compared with the others. Any advice on how to shorten the render time? Is it just a part of the plug-in, or is there something I can do to make it go faster, or make better use of my hardware (which includes a Kona 3 card)?
Project is HD; starts in HDV; I am testing a path that includes transcoding to either the Apple Intermediate Codec or DVCProHD. So far, the Apple Intermediate Codec has a speed advantage; I haven’t analyzed the quality difference yet.
G5 Quad, Kona 3 card, FCP 5.0.4, OS 10.4.4, 4.5 Gb RAM.

Nope, nothing hardware or software related will decrease the render time in FCP. You already have a very fast Quad machine. Ultimatte is just a very slow render because of all the calculations it makes which reults in a perfect key.

I highly recommend the DVCPro HD codec. If you stay in HDV your render times will be even longer.
