XDCAM log and capture software, P2 needs to catch up
Saw Sony’s XDCAM logging and capture software(Beta version) in a demo by Apple last night. Proxies, in and out points, really slick. You can import stuff and work on FCP at the same time.
Panasonic, please bring this stuff to market. Sony is offering this for free. Why should P2/Apple users have to pay for HD Log, when
Sony is offering their interface for free? -

Because HD Log isn’t made by Apple nor Panasonic. Why should they give a way this product for free?
Panasonic has Viewer software but only on the PC…because the P2 was developed by the arm of Panasonic that deals mostly with Windows.

Maybe because XDcam is still HDV no matter what you call it or how you work with it.

That’s very true, Gary. But Sony will teel you that the purpose of HDV is to be a data transport medium, not a video stream. Yeah, this can present problems but with the right capture card, you can capture at any codec and solve the problems of HDV. True, again, HDV is not a great medium for film out but it was meant to be a broadcast format, in which, it works beautifully.
To be perfectly honest, if I had the budget, I would go with the Panasonic AJ-HDC27H camera and work entirely in DVCPRO HD. Panasonic does make some absolutely awesome video but I still don’t like the concept of P2 and the constant swaping of those expensive cards.
By the way, I agree completely with James, Panasonic’s HD Log software should be free to all Panasonic customers that are using HD style cameras. It only makes sense for it to be a free software. Sony can do it, why can’t Panasonic?

Then look at the HDX900… no VFR no P2, but 1080 and 720 @ 24, 25,30p, 60i/p to DVCPROHD tape, HDSDI, SDI ,FW. outs
