  Chroma Key v Pleasantville…please help

  Hi guys I posted this query earlier before, but my response, didnt really resolve my issue, I made any error in my first email. I thought i’d try again. Please let me know if someone can help with this query, I’ve run out of ideas, to solve my problem. This is my first time chroma keying, and i’ve followed all the guides to the letter, and im happy as its working.

  I have just mananged to successfull create a chroma key effect using greenscreen. But after creating a Pleasantville effect (sin city) on the same peice of footage using 3-way colour correction, my background image becomes invisible. But its still there. When i click off the 3-way colour correction, the background re-appears.

  My chroma key, color correction footage is on “V2” while my background is on “V1” I’ve tried dropping both files in as sequences within a sequence, but the result is the same. Does any one have a work around?

  Guess you’re going to have to key the footage and then color-correct the composite, either as a nested layer or as a pre-render, unless you can prevent the color correction from happening before the key. Of course you’re already applying the key before the color corrector …

  Wow, that would be similar to my post. Hmm. Guess Gus will just have to keep posting the same question till he gets an answer he likes.

  There are many effects in FCP that do not respect the alpha created by the previous effect. This may be one of them but without sitting over you shoulder it’s impossible to tell what you’re doing wrong .You might not be doing anything wrong. Nest or prerender. You will be glad you did.

  I feel your pain. It’s a b*** when you take the trouble to try to help, and find it was a waste of keystrokes. But I guess Gus must be feeling his / her way – first time keying and all that.

  I could also be the order of the filters in your stack. The keying filter should be above the color corrector so that it executes first. But if you desaturate the footage, the keyer may simply be losing the chroma information it needs to pull the key, regardless of the order of the filters.

  Try this: place your background on V1. Place the footage to be keyed on both V2 and V3. Apply only the keyer on V2. Apply only the 3 way CC on V3, then change the composite mode on V3 to “Track Matte Alpha”. Render, wash, rinse, repeat.

  Thanks for your advice. Thanks Arnie for your positive remark and advice, i will try your method.

  Mike _s and Bogiesan, as i said in my second post that i made an error in my first post, hence that was why i rewrote it changing a few lines in the paragraph. Please do not take it as me repeating myself as i appreciate all the advice i can get.
  Gus understands, and HE, appreciates your comments. I was merely waiting for a few more responses to compare approaches before getting back to people with my next plan of action.
