OT: question for peter wiggins
hey peter,
you may not know the answer to this, but I thought you might be the closest to know on the cow.
do you know any of the production details for the BBC 2 programme Top Gear?
I don’t particularly like cars all that much, but I am totally rivetted to the screen and its fantastic cinematography, editing and grading…every shot directly out of a high budget car commercial.
just wondered if you knew anyhing about the production process at the Beeb.

I don’t know anybody who works on it, but strangely I used to do some work at the post house Evolutions
where the inserts get made. Sadly that was a few years ago and the guy who used to book me has retired!It looks like the cameras are chipped, lots of filters, high shutter speed & pretty heavy grading.
I like the look, but there is a limit to how much screaming Jeremy Clarkson you can take driving
round an airfield going ‘WhooHooo” The features also look a bit stage managed now.And just count how many fades to black there are! Good, but samey, having said that Channel 5’s attempt
to rival TG looks terrible.Feel free anybody who knows to chip in with some more details. Mr Nattress let me in on a few post secrets
on another BBC show, but I’ll let him fill everyone in if its not too secret 😉Peter

know what you mean about Jeremy, he is fun in small doses!
the production values on the show are fantastic and I wondered if it was even made in HD – varicam perhaps with all the super slomo shots they use of spinning wheels etc…
the grades are beatuiful….i was really curious as to what it was shot on and what was used to cut and grade.
by chance i flicked over to channel 5 last night and saw their attempt at ripping off the show….i know imitation is a form of flatery but this just seemed like visual plagarism – certainly doesnt have anything like the chemistry that TG captures.
Evolutions are a good shop, though I’ve only ever got dubs done with them.
I’d be very interested as to what other BBC shows Graeme’s filters have been put to work on….do tell 🙂
