I’m shooting footage on Sony HDR-FX1 in HDV mode, and capturing on my FCP system via FW.
I’ve learned the hard way (since the Sony isn’t mine and haven’t mastered it yet) that it will downconvert upon capture if it set to do so. Thus I have my early footage all downcoverted to DV and edited in my FCP timeline.
I have my later footage captured in HDV mode, and edited in a FCP timeline.
Now that I have about 7 sequences edited (3 in DV, 4 in HDV), I wish to put them all together in one sequence so I can edit the transitions between the scenes. But going from a 37% canvas view with HDV footage that fits the screen nicely to the DV footage obviously shows the size difference.
Is my only option (other than re-capturing the footage in HDV and then editing it again) to render out the HDV sequences to DV-quality, and then lining them up on the timeline with other DV material?
If I were to re-capture the original HDV footage, how can I avoid re-editing the material? I have no experience working with EDL’s and frankly don’t really understand it. Is there a way for FCP to identify the footage TC and then re-work all my edits with the new material?
As always, thanks for the help.
