Hello to everyone at Creative Cow. I am writing to you on the advice
of a friend, who suggested this forum is wonderfully helpful for my
kind of query. I have a technical question that perhaps you can
answer. I’m writing from Uganda – yup, it took me about 40 minutes to
get to this webpage, so I hope I’ve come to the right site for
    assistance!

A few weeks ago I filmed on two mini-DVs and two Hi-8 cameras for a
group video project. I tested the Hi-8s and
was easily able to transfer the Hi-8 footage to my Mac using the
FireWire, Log and Capture, no special settings etc. But now, two
weeks later, when I try the Log and Capture function w/ the High-8 no
image appears in the viewer or capture screen. Again, I was able to
do it before, and to my knowledge I have changed no functions in the
program, so why I can’t capture now is a mystery (the mini-DVs are
capturing no problem). What’s odd is that the FireWire is definitely
talking to the Hi-8, I can fast forward, rewind etc. but no image. My
Final Cut Pro manual gives no indication that settings should change
    depending
on the tape format, though it seems like a sensible possibility to
me. I’ve also played around w/ the capture and clip settings but so
far to no avail. Is this an NTSC/PAL conversion issue? All the
cameras are NTSC, though we played footage into a PAL monitor via the
STV stereo video cables. Any idea here?

    Scratching head, sleeping footage.
