  Trails from candle light

  I have (actually, will soon have) footage of candles burning and want to process the video such that trails from the flame remain present the whole time, essentially drawing lines downward. Everything else in the video is quite dim and none of it is consequential.

  Here’s the thing: the candles I am burning are ones I have made with gunpowder charges in them that create sparky flares when the flame reaches them, and I want the trail from the frame to reflect that with a bulge. Basically, it’s a bigger flame so the trail should be bigger there.

  Does this seem possible? Really really hard? Is the some built in effect that I could use, or another tool? Thanks.

  Effects –> Time —> Echo. But beware, it’s a render hog. The more frames it accumulates, the slower it gets (for obvious reasons) so make sure, you really only have the clips you need trimmed down to the last frame.
