Hey guys
Is there a way to fire out 2 pass CBR encoding using the windows media output?
I can’t find it. Seems to be locked at 1 pass. -

Because of AE’s architecture and render system it can’t do multipass compression…
Your best bet is to export uncompressed or lossless, and use something like Squeeze, Compressor or Procoder.

I don’t have AE 7, so don’t know if that’s possible, but I habitually use Windows Media Encoder to make wmv files from uncompresses AE files. The control is so much better. The Windows Media Encoder help files say you can do 2 pass in either CBR or VBR. Here is WM Encoder if your on a PC:

Just use the wizard, then when you get through the basics, click on the “Properties” tag (next to “Start Encoding”), then click the “Compression Tab, then the “Edit” button, along that path you have complete control. The encoder is quick, you can run many sessions rather quickly to zero in on compression size and quality (if you’re real picky).

Like the others said, don’t bother with aE in this case. Just use the WMEncoder which is free in the basic edition (but only encodes certain resolutions).
