I’ve recently experienced a problem on occasion where a clip will scale during a transition. There are no scale keyframes and the transition in only a cross dissolve. I can get around it by using opacity handles if it happens, but that can be a pain. Has anyone else had this problem or know why it would happen. I’m using FCP 5.04 on a Dual 2GB G5.

I should mention its not happening often, on either computer, but this will happen on a colleagues system as well. This is independent of sequence type as we are almost always running 8 bit uncompressed sequences.

go to your sequence > render and sequence render all menus and make sure that the full option is checked for both menus. Then, render everything. This will render all of your rt effects. i always render everything before outputting to tape.

I feel your pain. I spent many a frustrating moment wondering why I was getting random scale changes for no good reason. Like the fellow above just mentioned, it was a render issue for me. If you don’t want to render your entire sequence in full. Make sure that “full” is selected in “render selection”. Set in and out points on the timeline before and after the offending dissolve, and then “render selection”. Usually takes care of it for me.

This happena (at least to me) when choosing to scale a clip AFTER a transition has been added. I don’t have problems when adding a transition after a motion effect.
