  can I record directly to disk?

  I have a canon zr20 with a broken tape mechanism. Can I hook the camera up to my computer w/ a firewire cable and record directly to disk? If so, how?

  Yes.
  In FCP Log & Capture change the device control preset to “Non-Contollable Device”, then just hit “Capture Now” when you’re ready.

  (You might also want to change the “Limit Capture Now” so that it won’t automatically stop after x number of minutes.)

  Be sure to TEST this, as some systems are not too reliable under these conditions.

  ALTERNATIVE:
  Borrow or buy another inexpensive camcorder, connect via FW and record on the TAPE in the 2nd camcorder.
