Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy 30p question

i’m trying to understand how progressive images are handled in a workflow.
right now i’m dealing with a vx2000 and am curious as to how its frames are
stored on tape. the reason i ask is that i know that 24p images in the dvx100
are captured as progressive but broken down into fields when they are sent to
tape, and that there are specific patternings as to how this is done.

i want to bring the 30p into final cut. i’ll be editing with an ntsc monitor
for previewing. somewhere in this chain, i know the 30p will have to be dealt
    with as lower rez fields.

    where does this happen?
is it done by the camera internally?
is there a process the video has to go through during or after capture?
is it handled by the editing software?
    what is the pattern?

i asked a similar, if more general, question earlier and got the response
that i should just import the tape into a standard ntsc dv timeline. that
was a helpful start but i’d like to get some more detail on the technical
    process if i could.

since that response implies compatibility between 30p and 60i, how is this
    achieved?

    any help is appreciated. thanks,

    george
