Has anybody had a problem using a Panasonic D5 deck with Final Cut Pro? We have are using a Blackmagic Decklink HD Pro card. When it comes to editing to tape, the D5 seems to start a few frames early so then putting in two or three frames of a still image before the edit in point. We have fiddled with the settings in Final Cut and the D5 machine and have managed to get it to lay down as little still frames as we can but it doesn’t excuse the fact that it’s still there. It makes dropping in on the tape almost an impossibility.

If anybody know of any way of helping then please let me know.

    Thanks.

A friend of mine is having the same troubles.
FCP 5 is very accurat now when capturing or
playing out to tape – except HD-D5 …

We switched yet to Panasonic RS-422 protocol
and tried several offsets but this doesn’t help.
The offset is never the same. They handle this
problem by rebooting and using a standard
offset. In one of three cases this works.

It seems that none tested yet HD-D5 as it is
    a rare system …

It seems they don’t test a lot of things these days. It took until FCP 5.0.3 (or was it .4) for 720p 8bit and 10bit capture to work correctly. It was completely screwed up with FCP 5, 5.0.1, 5.0.2 even though it worked correctly in FCP 4. I’m pretty sure it took over 6 months for Apple to finally address and fix the issue.

I regularly work with D5 and my Kona systems ( K2 / K3) without incident in FCP 5.04.
Are you sure its not something else, In my experience of the BMD board/ driver combos do not support the sync the D5 needs for frame accuracy.

I would post on the BMD forums with more info to see.
