How do you direct audio to certain tracks for output?
Folks, I can’t figure ou what I am doing wrong. I have a dialogue track (A1) and I have track with music and sound fx mixed down (A3 & A4).
I just want to tell FCP to output the dialogue track to channels 1 &2 on a beta SP tape, and the other track to 3 & 4.
I am using my Blackmagic Decklink Extreme (SDI out) to the BetaSP deck.
I’ve gone to sequence settings and set audio outputs to 4. Then Right-clicked in the space left of the audio buttons on the sequence to tell FCP where I want these tracks to go as described above. Yet when I output. I get track A1 on all 4 channels and my music track doesn’t come through at all (when viewing the audio meters on the beta deck)
Am I missing something folks? I just want to make sure my tracks are separated on the tape and not all mixed together.

The first thing I do is is go to the menu Final Cut Pro>User Prefrences>Audio Outputs.
If there is a preset for 4channel output great, click on the column to the left of the preset you want to use. You should get a Check mark. If you do not have a 4 channel pre-set, duplicate a 2 channel pre-set and at the output tab select 4. This will add another grouping below, you can then change the 1&2 grouping to Mono and leave the 3&4 grouping in Stereo. Give it a new Name and discription and hit ok. Now, make sure it has the check mark next to the new pre-set and click ok.The trick now is to create a new Sequence and Copy and Paste the original timeline into the new one.
I would also double checkthe new sequence’s settings, Sequence>Settings>audio output, to see that the same preset is checked there.
You should now be able to play out channels 1&2 mono ( 1 to 1 and 2 to 2) and channels 3&4 stereo.
I do not have a BlackMagic decklink card so I don’t know if there are any adjustments you will have to do there.There maybe a faster way but that is the only way I have been able to do this.

if its a one off, theres no need to change your User Preferences
