I am considering the 3-drive Vibe internal SATA drive mount with 3 of the Hitachi 400 gig 16mb buffer drives. I have the Sonnet 8-port (4 internal 4 external) PCI card in a dual 2.7 G5. I eventually plan to get a 4-drive external enclosure to RAID those four drives with either 1, 2, or 3 of the internal drives on the Vibe to do single stream HD online.

At the same time I’m not sure if I am that comfortable stuffing three drives internally (heat issues) and wonder if I should just get a four-drive external enclosure and be done with it.

Anyone running 3-4 SATA drives internally on their G5…does it make the fans run more often?

Internal or external? 4, 5, or 6 Sata drives in a RAID for HD online?

    Rich,

I installed a three drive Swift Data bracket and four Hitachi 250 SATA II drives in a Dual 2.7. I ran Hardware Monitor for awhile before the addition and haven’t noticed any real changes in temperature since installing them.

Be sure to set your energy saver settings to “Never” and uncheck the “let drives sleep…. ” option there as well. The Sonnett card doesn’t like the machine to go to sleep on it’s own.

    Hi,

    I’ve been running a 3 x 300GB internal with the Swift bracket and a sonnet 4×4,
running every day for a year and a half with zero problems and FAST !
