  • “Error: Out of Memory” corrupt sequence?

I have a FCP 4.5 project file that I am converting to my system, FCP 5.0.2. Everything works fine, except during the conversion I get an error “Operation not allowed.” Nonetheless, the file gets converted.

However, my main sequence does not open. When I try I get two errors. First, “Operation not allowed,” and second, “Error: Out of Memory.” Now that error must have some special meaning because I have 48 GB available on the external that all my project files are on. I have 17 GB available on the main internal and 60 on the other. Also I have 2.5 GB of RAM, which I thought was the real meaning of Memory.

Now I can get the sequence to open if I unlink my clips to the sequence. If I reconnect them while the sequence is open I get a very strange error. First, “Operation not allowed,” then my canvas window turns blood-red with white text saying, “Display unavailable. Close and reopen window to restore.” When I do that, I’m back to square one.

Here are the possible issues, I’m wondering if anyone has experience with solving this issue:
    1) The clips were captured in large files, about 50 minutes each.
    2) All of the files are on an external firewire 400. Maybe the throughput is too high?
    3) God hates me?

    UPDATE:

I can reconnect, without error, all of the files shorter than 31 minutes…
