Posted by Tore Jonssen on March 7, 2006 at 2:49 pm

I’ve edited a timeline with DVCPro50 anamorphic material, and now is the time to export “proofs” to my client. However, the brilliant H264 codec doesn’t seem to support the 16:9 format (all my files become 4:3 in Quicktime player). I am a bit confused here as to what format would be better for quick proof exports from such a timeline…can somebody please point me in the right direction? TIA, Tore:-)

Sure it does, you just need to take the time to go through the menus to set up for 16:9 aspect ratio. You make the changes in the Geometry menu of the Inspector.

Play with the Pixel Aspect and Constrain Display Aspect settings.

Although I’m sure Walter’s answer is correct, I didn’t understand it… and if I didn’t, you might not either. (I think it has something to do with compressor which I never use)

    Here’s what I do…

File – Export – Quicktime Conversion

Make sure the setting is set for Quicktime Movie

Then, under that it should say Recent Settings or Default Settings… change that to Broadband HIGH.

Then, click on the OPTIONS button of the export dialog box and then SIZE… change the size there to reflect a 16:9 ratio.

You’re right, I didn’t catch the point right away (home from work right now anyway…). Will try it out first thing tomorrow. Thanks guys!

There’s a Geometry tab in Compressor.

Pixel Aspect – probably set that for either DV Anamorphic or DVCPro HD (16:9)

Constrain to display ratio – 16:9

I use Compressor for all web / DVD exports.

lol — yeah, I’ve used it quite a bit until it stopped working one day. Although I hate it, I’m learning to live without it.

I’ll get around to fixing one of these days.
