  It this, in fact, 24P Advanced?

  My DP believes he shot some footage with his Canon xl2 using 24P advanced. When I capture the footage into FCP4 using 2:3:3:2 pulldown removal, two interesting things happen: (a) the audio/video are unsynched; (b) when i drag a clip to the 23.98 timeline, I get a red “needs rendering” line across the top immediately.

  As an experiment, I recaptured in to a 29.98 timebase, no problems. Does this mean that my DP did not use 24P Advanced?

  I appreciate your thoughts on the subject.

  Try removing the 2:3 pulldown in Cinema Tools, If it works OK in a 23.98 sequence the DP shot 24p, and not advanced.
