    My system:
    Dual 2.5 G5
    Cinewave 4.7 Capture card
    FCP 5.03

I was using a SCSI drive stripped to RAID 5, my SCSI card was in slot 3. No problems.

I just bought an XRAID drive and stripped it to raid 50. I transfered the footage that was on the SCSI drive and am able to work with it no problem in FCP. The problem happens when I try to capture new footage.

When I go to capture, I am getting constant dropped frames. 100% of the footage becomes unusable in FCP. I have tried the Fiber channel card in slot 3 and 4 with the same bad results.

Just for grins I removed the fiber channel card and replaced the SCSI card. I was able to capture to the SCSI drive again without a problem.

The problem occurs with all types of “ins” Component, SDI and Firewire.

I have confirmed with Apple that I am running the latest firmware (1.5), which might be conflicting with the Cinewave card. But before I head down that ugly path, I thought I would ask on here.

    Any auggestions? Thanks in advance.

One additional bit of info. Printing to tape doesn’t seem to be a problem.

Try this… Under RAID Admin, highlight your Xserve and select system, then settings in the toolbar. Enter your management password and select the performance tab. If “Allow Host Cache flushing” is checked, un-check it for both controllers. Then select “ok” and save your settings. Make sure your read prefetch is set to 8 stripes (512kb/disk). This helped me with dropped capture frames.

Okay you’re my new hero. It worked! I was about to shell out 3k for a Kona card and breakout box. If you’re ever in LA I owe you a nice lunch. Thanks man!
