moving SATA 4-bay raids from one computer to another
I’m planning on capturing 8 programs to 8 different Raid systems (4-bay Fusion boxes) I plan to put a sonnet 4 channel card is two different systems (one to edit and one to color correct) will I be able to move these raids from one system to the other without any problems? I’m planning on stripping them with Apple software.

No problem. The raid info is carried onboard the drives themselves.

sacci- We’ve done this many times. We have SeriTek cards and enclosures. We use Raid 0 and stripe them in pairs (using Apple’s disk utility-non-journaled). To play it safe we try and boot down before we start unplugging things. Then the drives show up on the desktop of the other system when we boot it up. We have hot swapped when we’re in a hurry (and click our way through the dialog box warnings) but it really doesn’t take that long to shut down and unplug. If the enclosures have the removable trays it makes it even simpler. SATA is awesome!

Hey Jerry,
No need to think safety. The Firmtek units are 100% hot swappable. I own both the 2-bay and 4-bay units, and I swap them around all the time. So long as you unmount the drives or striped sets on the way out, as soon as you reconnect them they are recognised again. The firmtek controller will acknowledge them immediately and all you have to do is just click on the accept button. Its foolproof.

David- Thanks for the response on that. Yea, I guess we’re timid in that regard. We were burned early on during a hot swap (which was probably pilot error) so we’ve been goosey ever since. I see SeriTek has step by step instructions and they are simple. Its time to start going that route.
