powermac 2,7
Posted by Cromwell Karlon on February 27, 2006 at 1:51 pmClient has a 2.7 powermac… and they have just about run out of harddrive space… So they just ordered 2 maxtor sata drives 400gig each.
Turns out the Mac is already maxed out in terms of adding
more harddrives… So what should I do?Buy a Sata card?
If so which one?And I would also need harddrive enclosure… Which one?
What other options do I have?

February 27, 2006 at 5:52 pmIs this for media? FW800. It’s very portable and suitable for SD workflows.

Did you even read the original post? The guy clearly stated that his client had already ordered two SATA drives.

February 27, 2006 at 6:09 pmUhh yeah, but he said that he is trying to replace two drives that are already in his computer, which really comes down to what is he using these drives for? Is he using them for media? Then I recommended FW800 and then he can clear off the media drives in his computer and no reason to reload systems and other such antics. You and I both know, David, it’s not recommended to keep your system and media on the same drive. I am simply giving him another external media solution which doesn’t involve building anything or taking apart his computer. FW800 is plug and play. I am simply offering an alternative. OK?
I’m reading between the post if you will.

February 27, 2006 at 6:35 pmI get it now, you’re like a psychic detective — you know what people need before they even have an inkling they need anything.

Not really, I just like options.

February 27, 2006 at 6:51 pmWell, as someone who uses a SATA raid mayself, I would never recommend firewire drives to anyone (unless they were using a laptop). Even more so if they had already ordered two SATA hard drives.

February 27, 2006 at 7:22 pmHi,
The Seritek cars are good. You can use one of their cards and a two drive enclosure.
You could also use one of their cars and mount them inside with the G5 Drive Bracket reviewed here (the review has links to other mounting solutions):

February 27, 2006 at 8:50 pmWell actually I was trying to go as in-expensive as possible at $499 for a drive enclosure that’s rather expensive… Nothing else is out there?
I thought there were SATA cards, and all I’d need was an enclosure to house the 2 drives… -

February 27, 2006 at 8:55 pmIs this to use as a capture scratch or for your system? What resolution do you work in? Don’t open those new SATA drives just yet.
