  • What setting for min free space when using G Raids?

Posted by Gary Alan on February 4, 2006 at 8:50 pm

I am using a G4 with FCP5, two ext G Raids with its own firewire 800 card and a Declink for SD work. Sometimes we use Digibeta and sometimes Beta SP. What should I set the FCP System settings for Minimum Allowable Free Space on Scratch Disks? Somoene said 10000 MB, but I think that might be for normal disks that slow down in the last 10%. I think I read that the G Raids hold up throughout the whole disk capacity. Is 2047 MB enough for the G Raids?

I’m sticking with the 10% rule with my G-Raids. 50GB free on my 500GB drives.

I try to keep 20-25% free. Remember to allow room for renders!

Thanx guys. Actually there are 2 ext G Raids and we haven’t really filled 1 up yet. Raid 2 will take over after 1 reaches the limit set. I didn’t want a performace hit on 1.
