  Low audio levels

  I’m cutting a feature, and all audio was recorded on a Deva as Broadcast wave files. Some of the audio was recorded at extremely low levels and I’m having to increase the gain higher than Final Cut Pro permits in the timeline (12 db). Other than doubling up the audio in the timeline or going into Soundtrack Pro, does any one know how to increase gain higher than 12db.

  Carmelo,

  Doubling or tripling the tracks is not a bad way to fix the problem. And, typically doubling or tripling the amplitude of digital audio will not raise the noice floor, which would be the case with analog audio.

  Carmelo,

  Peak DV from Bias does a very good job of boosting the gain, and you won’t have to mess with all those tracks.

  Add the Audio Filters > Apple > AUPeakLimiter and adjust the “Pre-gain” to any level you want.
