SOS sections are coming unrendered
To whom it may concern,
I have a film that I have been editing for two years that is very close to completion that seems to have gotten a corrupt file in it and now all my sections are becoming unrendered and I can not seem to re-render them and keep them rendered. Some sections will not even open. And I have been unsuccessful trying to copy my project file to create another one under a new name thus far. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful as I am very nervous about losing two years work!

Have you completely deleted the old render files? If the corruption is in a render file, this should clear it. Yes, you’ll have to re-render, but it sure beats the alternative. Do a system search for “Render”, so in case you have an errant render files folder somewhere, you can find that one, too.
Give it a try, and then render and see if that clears it up.

Use FCP help or read in the manual about “render manager” and how you can use it to delete all your renders and start over. Did you check your disk space to verify it is not full?
Have you gone back to your autosaved sequences and checked if you can open those sequences?
Did you do a save as on a daily basis during editing. Whenever I offline a show for a long period of time I will on a daily basis do a “save as” on the sequence and add the new day to the name. This workflow will create a new sequence for each day but it in the event corruption occurs you can backtrack .
You don’t have to do this daily as you could do it every other day or weekly but you increase the chance of a problem occurring at the wrong time.
