  SDRAM and Graphics cards

  Lets say I had a choice between the macbooks…

  The cheaper one has 128MB of SDRAM on the graphics card
  The more expensive has 256.

  Does SDRAM in the graphics card make that big of a difference when dealing with AfterEffects, Final Cut, and Avid Express?

  I know it does for gamers, but how does the SDRAM in the graphics card help visual artists?
  And, can I add SDRAM to the card later down the line if I want?

  After Effects can use the graphics memory if the card supports OpenGL.

  It’s helpful for previews but won’t really help rendering. Processor speed is the most critical here, then RAM and hard disk speed.

  After Effects OpenGL support is improving but its not great. That said, on a MacBook you can’t upgrade the card, you choose at the time of purchase.
