  • Quicktime and black level

    We use black setup at 7.5. When have notice that when we output the FCP timeline to a quicktime movie, quicktime is adjusting the black level to
    zero, thus making everything dark in the quicktime. Is there a way to keep quicktime from adjusting our setup?

    Jack- I see where no one has responded yet so I’ll pass on some black level information that I have learned.

    7.5 Black level (setup) is a U.S. analog issue. FCP operates in the digital domain and works at 0 black level. Most U.S. consumer analog equipment (VHS, DVD, etc.) delivers video with a 7.5 black level. Quicktime is digital so it is a native
    0 black level. Now having said that there are issues playing Quicktime on a Mac and exporting them and playing them on a windows machine. Windows and Mac have different native Gamma levels and the what looks great on a Mac looks dark on a PC.
