Render Time
I had to do 8 testemonial commercial spots yesterday and it took about an hour and a half to render. Just curious as to how long it takes other people to render similar stuff. It was basically 4 mins of 7 or 8 layers, including a background that did in motion and exported out, the footage (with chroma key, color smoothing, green spill, matte choker filters), 2 livetype layers a white box layer a motion layer with some graphics and a tiff layer of a graphic. My boss wants me to see if it should have taken this long to render. wondering if someone has renderd a simalar length of chroma key footage with about the same number of layers, etc .(system config at bottom and i think it’s in the profile too).

It all depends on what codec you are editing with, what effects you are doing, what filters are applied, length of program…and speed of your computers processor.
If you are just working with DV and have multiple windows, it will take less time than someone using 8-bit uncompressed and filters in the multiple windows.
An hour and a half sounds like the normal render time for what you are describing. Not to long ago, that would ahve taken many many hours.

Whoops, i did forget to mention that I was on 10-bit uncompressed timeline. sorry bout that. But 1.5 hours to me as well considering the amount of processing that needs to take place.

10-bit? With all you described? Yeah, I can see that. I had an hour-long show that was pretty heavy with layering and plugins…DV…and it took 6 hours to render at full res.

Is FCP doing any of the drop shadows this will add to the render times.
By the way where did you get your special version dual 2ghz G4 which you listed. Did you mean dual 2 G5?

It’s special edition man. Me and Steve are pretty tight. I also have the only G5 powerbook if anyone is interested.

Use 8bit instead – very much faster to render.
