most practical web delivery???
Need to deliver a few short clips from FCP to client via email who then wants to send them to other people via email. Can anyone recommend the most practical export settings in either Quicktime Conversion or Compressor that will encode decent quality in a realistic size? original content in FCP is DV. To boot, client wants AVI movies. Thanks in advance.

You didn’t say what version of FCP, QT or Compressor you’re using. You can probably find what you need in Compressor. I’m using Compressor 2.0.1 which is part of the FCP5 suite. Check with your clients to find out what QT version they are using. Then pick the appropriate QT preset in Compressor that works best for your footage. If it’s talking heads or footage without much motion, you can use a lower data rate. If there’s lot of motion in the frame, you’ll need a higher data rate. The best thing to do is take a short scene from you program and compress it using various presets until you find one that looks good and isn’t too big. Be aware that you can change settings inside the presets and save them as your own settings.

Thanks John. I need to do some upgrading. I’m only on Compressor 1.2.1 and Quicktime 6. whatever. The tricky part is having to deliver as a Windows movie (not AVI as I said earlier). So QT is out of the question.

How long are the segments you want to send? This has an impact on the size of the files. Compressor can certainly do the job, but you can do it with QT Pro if you follow this:

If you’re going to be doing a lot of these, Compression Master or Sorenson Squeeze or both can save you a lot of time.
