  • plugin question….many pictures that make up the one picture effect

Posted by Paul Nevison on December 30, 2005 at 12:15 pm

    hey guys,

trying to track down the name of the plugin or technique that gives the effect of taking ‘thousands’ of small pictures and when the camera pulls out all the small pictures work together using the light and dark of each image to create one larger picture.

it’s used all over the place in advertising etc… especially this year…..a plugin name or tutorial link would be much appreciated

    thanks

    Its called an “Image Mosaic”.

Google for more info and apps that can help you.

I don’t think there’s a Plugin per se, but there are ways to create one and use it in FCP.

[paul nevison] “just need to find one that’s mac compatible!!!”

    https://www.google.com/search?q=Image+Mosaic+Mac

All you need to do is add “mac” to any google search.

That is amazing Tim. FWIW this technique was invented at an image lab at MIT about 15 years ago, then an extremely time-consuming and expensive process.

    Have a wonderful day.

very cool – the examples page shows what I found out after paying $$$ for a mosaic app: some pictures mosaic very prettily, others just look kind of blah. And rarely do any approach the feel of a handmade one.
