Maybe not the right forum, but who are HD customers? Is it primarily for anything that will be shown on the big screen (in a theater) or broadcast? Because if there is no HD DVDs yet, then it becomes SD once it gets encoded to the DVD, right? (even if its shown on a plasma tv?)

Broadcast networks, film projects and some ad agencies. Right now HD is about 85% of all our work. In 2004 it was maybe 5%.

Keep in mind that even if your project is going to DVD or some other SD broadcast right NOW, it is probably worth the cost to work in HD so that you have an HD master for the future.

That way, you can take your project in 2 years and copy it onto whatever HD-discs are being sold at that time. As the cost difference between working in SD and HD continue to shrink shooting HD for that reason alone starts to make more and more sense.

    Hi,

The SD quality should be better if the source is HD. Some films are telecined to HD for that reason (better quality SD DVD’s).

    Best Wishes,

    Mitch
