Still having a problem with dropped frames
I don’t think it can be a problem with graphics card when the dropped frame problem occurs in a Print to Tape process, but what else could it be. I put new memory in but it tests okay. I have firewire hard drives but I am rendering full which puts a copy on the internal drive, right? The only thing I have done different, since it was working was the memory, upgraded to 4.5 and updated ati display software. Please advise.

If in fact your render files are being written to your system drive this could easily be your problem. All of your media files, including render files, need to be on drives other than your system drives. As for where render files are written and stored, like all else, this is user definable.

How exact do I play it from the timeline and what do I use for countdown and slate?

Dropped frames are always a matter of your drives not being fast enough. There may be any number of reasons why, like them being to full, or that you’re trying to use your system drive, or that you’ve got 14 firewire drives daisy-chained to a camcorder, etc.

You lay color bars, slate & countdown into your timeline. Which is how I usually do it, anyway, when I lay off to tape.

Strange, but he doesn’t seem to want to hear about what’s really causing his issues…

The firewire drives have worked fine until recently, but I did move the media to an internal non-system drive and had the same problem. On either, external and internal drives, the problem does not exist when I play the timeline to tape. My only question now is whether the quality of produced by running/playing the timeline to tape is the same as the “Print to Video” process?
