  Audio format questions…

  Hello-

  I’m capturing HD footage that has been downconverted to DVCAM w/ code. All going via FW. When the clip is done capturing I get a warning saying something to the effect that the captured clips do not match the settings of my card/project. The project seems to capture fine and in sync. When I look in the browser it says the captured clip is @ 48.0 khz and 16 bit integer. The seq. settings in the browser, however, say 48 khz as well but 32-bit floating point.

  The settings for the sequence (DV NTSC 48 khz) itself, however, say 48 khz and 16 bit depth with no choice to change from 32 bit even though 16 is selected anyway.

  Any thoughts on this one? I hope I’m being clear enough.

  You should be OK as long as you are using the stock presets for DV sequence and capture (which is what you are describing). Not sure what is causing the error message, but if you don’t see a problem when placing the clips in a sequence, you don’t have one…

  You say, “something to the effect that the captured clips do not match the settings of my card/project.” There is a similar message when capturing 32k audio at 48k, and vice versa. You’re obviously setup for 48k sequence and 48k capture. Be sure your tapes are 48k as well. If so, I don’t know what your problem is. If not, create a 32k capture preset by duplicating the 48k factory preset and changing the sample rate in the copy to 32k. Use that while capturing 32k audio. You can still use the 32k audio on a 48k timeline.

  You may never notice the problem with capturing the 32k at 48k. It only shows up as out of sync audio and only on longer captures because it starts out in sync and drifts out over time, so check the end of your clips for sync.

  I get tape that is both 32k and 48k all the time and my deck (dsr-45) will show me which it is on the display, so I’ve just gotten used to checking that as soon as I put a tape in.
