Capturing choppy audio
Dual-2.5gig/tons of RAM/10.4.3
FCP HDI’m having trouble capturing just audio. Basically, I’ve got a high-end system and right now I’m using it to convert audio tape to mp3s (favor for the boss). I’ve got a Tascam 302 deck running into my Canopus ADVC-100 box and every bit of audio I capture is choppy. The settings on the audio once captured seem ok – 16-bit/48KHz. I can’t tell what I’m doing wrong. I don’t mind having to recapture again if there’s no happy conversion that will work but I’m curious as to why it’s not working.

Try sending a video signal from a deck or camera or something to the canopus and see if that helps. You dont have to capture the video but just have the signal present.

OK, so my tape deck is connected to the card with video coming in from another source. Selecting capture audio only I’m still getting the choppiness. I’ve even tried playing any random tape in the video deck to possibly stabalize but with no luck.

Have you successfully captured any audio & video through the canopus prior to this? Have you tried shutting down everything and then re-booting with it all connected? Sometimes this helps.

Yeha, I’ve never had any problems using the card in the past. And actually I just swapped it out for an identical spare I have on hand and still nothing. Even with a restart. Since it’s a favor project I’m really investing more energy in trying to figure out why it’s not working. At least it’s not a crazy time-crunch issue!

Just to eliminate one more possiblity, have you checked the actual tapes and deck by playing them out straight to an amp and speakers, or listening with headphones plugged into the tapedeck?
