    Hi,

I need to get a new camera and budget is a consideration. I would like to get a Panasonic GS 250 but it is not on the list of qualified cameras for FCP. On the box it says that the camera is OS X compatible . Does anyone know anything about it? I can get a good price and it is a 3 CCD camera. By the way I’m using FCP 3 right now.

    Thanks for anticipated help,

    Wally

I probably shouldn’t answer as I am not 100% for sure (though 98% sure, and it is usually that 2% that keeps popping up), but any camera with a functional firewire output and either NTSC or PAL and is listed on the box as Mac compatible should work just fine in FCP. If it does not have a functional firewire port, you will have to figure out how to get the footage on line, but as long as it does not record SeCam, you will be allright. (FCP does not support native secam footage. That is not to say one cannot convert it to a compatible file before or after import, just another step in the process)

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice. I kind of thought that what you said was the case. I guess Apple just wants to steer people to certain types and brands.

You may find when capturing you have to use the “NTSC firewire basic” setting for device control.
