  • FCP 5 and Kona LH Audio Problem

I’ve just upgraded my system from CineWave to Kona LH and I’m having some issues with audio… The G5 is setup to use Kona for all audio. Initially, after installation, Every sound played through the Mac had a 1 second echo of the sound. There seemed to be some buzzing with this. In Final Cut… whenever you stopped the sequence, the audio continued (echoed?) for one second after, again with the popping. I spoke to AJA, and they said there may be an issue with “cache playback” or something like that, but didn’t offer a solution. They also suggested I speak with Apple, and mentioned that I might need a firmware upgrade required. Dissapointing…

I now have a new problem… no audio at all from the desktop or Final Cut, except when I attempt to capture. I can hear the audio from the source, but there is no indication that FCP sees it. Preview (FCP 5) shows no levels. When source is captured, there is no audio.

Is there something in the initial setup that I am missing? Since this is an issue that initially was present on the desktop as well as FCP, I am assuming it to be a Kona problem. Is there something in FCP that is set wrong? I’m open to any suggestions…

    D,

I got an LH a couple of weeks ago, have had occasional audio problems as well. Like Cinewave, you have a control panel app, make sure your audio settings ae set properly for what you capture from.

Also, check your Mac sound settings, you may have the mute button set on output accidently, apparently if you hit the sound mute key right next to the eject button it turns off AJA’s sound.

    Have a wonderful day.

    D,

I forgot, check your sequence settings too, the LH wants an AJA setup.

    Have a wonderful day.

I do not know if this applies to the LH card but I do know to get rid of the echo and lingering audio after playhead stop for my LS card. I did have to do a MAC firm ware update. Once I down loaded from mac all pops and problems went away.

Do you know what the firmware upgrade was called? I think you can access this with system info and looking at the book rom version. My current problem version is 5.0.7f0. What’s yours?

    Thanks.

You need the firmware Updater 5.1.4 from Apple. Its listed under G5 Support, search G5 firmware, or 5.1.4 search. It fixed many of my problems.
