  • Horizontal Lines – basic question

    Posted by Chaimd on December 1, 2005 at 2:00 am

    Hi there,

    Just had a simple question. I just captured a tape from a recent trip to Venice and throughout the clip where ever I pan there are these lines going across the image horizontaly… (it looks like an image that is not deinterlaced)

    I’m wondering what the cause for this is and if it will show in the final exported video I make?

    I’m posted a picture of what it looks like: https://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d119/chaimdan/Veniceimage.jpg

    I’m new to FCP used avid and PP in the past.

    Thanks in advance, Chaim

    That looks like perfectly normal interlacing. View the video on your TV and it will look normal.

    Thanks for the reply, again I’m kind of new to this whole thing.

    So what would be the proper export if it is intended for computer viewing?

    Thanks again

    In Photoshop: Filters -> Video -> De-Interlace

    If you’re watching solely on a computer, just apply a de-interlace filter to it.

    IS there a de-interlace filter in FCP or do I need a third party one, if third party any suggestions?

    FILTERS/VIDEO FILTERS/DEINTERLACE

    There’s one built in, but it’s only “ok”. THere are many 3rd party and free ones. I have about 5 different ones in my Film Effects package – each suited for different needs, but the best of the 5 is called “G Smart Deinterlace” and that keeps the quality as high as possible.
