  • Tiger question w/ FCPHD?

I just upgraded to Tiger and now FCP HD 4.5 won’t open as well as DVDSP 4, Compressor2…in fact none of the apps I use on a consistent basis. Kit: G5 dual 2.5/Tiger (just upgraded today from 10.3.9), AJA IO. I put a post up on the OS X forum. I’m in a pinch and the spinning wheel is alive and well on my desk top. Yikes. Anybody have a suggestion(s)??
Thanks in advance for your help. I’m sure this has happened to some of you on the Cow.

If you’re trying to run FCP 4.5 with Tiger, I do know that FCPHD and Quicktime 7 don’t play nice together sometimes. You will probably also need to re-install all your pro apps because there exists a certain installation order/procedure that should be followed in order for all your programming to recognize one another. But that’s about the extent of my re-install knowledge.

If you go to the Apple website you’ll find that so many people had to go back to Quicktime 6.5 to continue using FCPHD that they created a download for just this purpose. Mostly though, the re-install of QT6 was for those who unwittingly upgraded to QT7 and still wanted to run OS 10.3.9 and FCPHD. But the link below won’t apply to you because you’re running Tiger now. But it’s nice to have the link handy just in case……

You may not want to hear this but I spent all day yesterday trying to get QT7 off and 6.5.2 back on my machine. My DV capabilities went dead. In short, I had to do an archive and install of OSX10.3. I also used this app called Pacifist that I got from macupdates.com. It allows you to install parts of a package instead of the whole package (i.e. QT MPEG2 component). Do a search here to see what some of the pros have said. I wish I had done that.

    Good luck man.

I upgraded my whole system a month ago.(tiger-fcp5 suite) My partner who is a Mac genius recommended and I did a complete erase and install of the system HD. He and others had problems just upgrading to Tiger. It also was nice to start over with a clean system.
