  ordering on timeline

  Hey,

  I’m doing some timelapse photography project which involves laying out 6000+ still, large (4mb) image files on the timeline. It took me forever to render these files. Now that they’re finished rendering I realized the ordering is wrong for some of them. I was wondering if Final Cut has a feature which will order files on the timeline in a sequential order. 100, 101, 102…etc. As they are all numbered in sequential order.

  Not really. Apple’s bizarre file ordering hasn’t changed in decades although you can find some tweaks that control it at the Finder or OS level. For instance, 10 is not necessarily going to come before 011.

  I have no idea what your comfort level is so please do not misunderstand these suggestions.
  Resolving timelapse from a collection of stills into a movie can be handled many different ways and FCP may not be where you want to do it. The topic comes up often here and on other FCP forums so try searching a few of them for timelapse help. No need to reinvent anything.

  From within FCP, your best option might be to break your project up into manageable reels of say 100-250 images each. That way mistakes don’t bring down the whole project.
