That exclamation point is telling you that your video is too “hot” (Excessive Luma or Chroma). When you see the exclamation point or the green check, that means you have turned on the “range Check” feature of FCP. If you don’t want to see this, go to “view” , select “range Check” and turn it off. This doesn’t fix your video, it just keeps quiet about it.

Pay attention to your video levels if your video is to be broadcast. Video that is too hot is ‘illegal’ and runs the risk of being rejected by the broadcaster. Using your range check, waveform monitor and vectorscope helps to make sure that you have legal video.

It also means you probably use a PC in your other life, and hit ctrl+z to undo something. Which in FCP is the shortcut to turn on range check.
