Our Final Cut Pro 5 systems are new to our studio operations. Within a FCP project you are able to create text without opening up a Live Type program. I am able to follow the instructions in the manual, however, within the text function there is no function for creating a shadow/border to a font. Is this function possible withing the FCP Text program or do you have to create font borders in Live Type? Thank you. Thom Sullivan/Comcast

Shadows would be added with the motion tab. Choose outline text generator if you want border text.

But the FCP text generator is pretty simplistic. Try the Boris text generator adn you can have multiple colors, multiple fonts, tracking, kerning, gradients, glows, etc.

It’s still not a wysiwyg editor like, well, anyone else, but it’s useable.

All the text generation in FCP is more akin to text in After Effects 3,4, or 5 – not other video editing text generators. I wish we could have a wysiwyg editor like in Avid for basic lower 3rds, slates, etc.

Well, slap my butt and call me monkey! I figured it out. One thing about FCP…Certain functions are never where you expect them to be. The TEXT OUTLINE function is not within the initial TEXT PARAMETERS. You access the OUTLINE feature bly selecting the “A” box at the lower right hand side of the Viewer window. SELECT Text…SELECT Outline Text. Bingo! You’re able to create font outlines. Why this function isn’t part of the initial Text/Font parameters is beyond me. Thanks. Thom Sullivan/Comcast

Thom…Use the Motion2 CG. It’s higher quality than the Boris CG included in FCP with much greater functionality.
