I have a G5, FCP 4.5. I have made DVDs before but now – ALL DAY – quick time conversion makes about 70% of a DVD and then the computers says – “your start up disk is almost full – make some space on it by deliting files”. So I go to the start up disk which is on the Mac HD. I take off lots of files. Shut it down, restart it and try again. Same message.

    What am I missing?

Post how long your program is, and how much open space you have on that drive. I’m assuming you are attempting to create MPEG-2 files?

On the LaCie hard drive (where the show is) I have 41.7 GB.

Since last night, I successfully burned a half hour show into a DVD. I am making this stricly to go into DVD Studio Pro or just to burn to a DVD to take to a duplicator to make lots of DVDs.

The show I tried 3 times unsuccessfully to make into a DVD is and hour and twenty min.

I am going to need to burn about 9 half hour DVDs spearately and then put them together into an hour and 50 minute show. Does it matter how many DVDs I have on my desktop waiting to burn?

Thank you SO MUCH for your input.

I think the easiest way to do this is to do it all in DVD studio pro. Export a non self contained QuickTime movie of each show, (file/export/QuickTme Movie…) then import that small file into DVD SP to burn your DVD’s. If you need to create a 90 minute version of this material, edit it in FCP, then do the same export into DVD SP. There are options in DVD SP’s encoding found in the preferences pane for DVD SP, and you should just choose one of those presets.

Many, many thanks. As soon as the operator catchs up with technology I will be good. Mine is a long learning curve.

I was able to QT Movie, 2, half hour shows. The 90 minute show won’t export cause I still have only 6 GB on my start up disk. That seems to be the major problem. I have deleted a 90 minute project and got rid of all its cache files, autosvave files, etc., and I STILL only have 6 GB on the start up disk. Remember, I have a Mac G5 with FCP 4.5.

What am I missing? I have to be able to export to DVD studio Pro. I should add that everything was wonderful when I just had my MAC drive and one 160 GB LaCie. I just added another 160 GB LaCIe and put both big projects on it thinking that I had covered all my bases. The bases are loaded and I can’t get free them up!
