  Editing media shot through an anamorphic lens.

  I have material shot with an anamorphic lens attached to a Sony VX2000.

  We’re looking to shot, edit, view on NTSC monitor in 16:9.
  I’ve done my ho,ework but have been unsuccessful to date.

  Procedure:

  Media shot with camcorder in 4:3mode. My readings tell me, this will provide me the highest resolution quality as the entire CCD is used.

  Created 16:9 Capture and Seq pre-sets, making sure the anamorphic box is checked.

  Captured media in 16:9 Log and capture window.

  Created a 16:9 Seq and edited my clips in a 16:9 timeline.

  Created a a standard 4:3 sequence and dragged the 16:9 sequence in to the 4:3 timeline. Brought this dragged 16:9 sequence into viewer and under the motion tab changed the aspect ration to-33.3%……..and rendered.

  When I view the media on my NTSC monitor the image is stretched Horizontally. I do get the top and bottom black “letter box”.

  I’ve tried all kinds of combinations and permutations to get this material to show on my NTSC monitor proportionally correct but unsuccesful.

  HELP!!!!…………really frustrated. Been at it since the weekend.

  Why? this is where your problem starts
  Dragging a 16:9 sequence into a 4:3 makes FCP sort out the aspect ratio for you.

  You have
  1) A correct sequence in 16:9 anamorphic This would be used for say, broadcast & DVD generation
  2) A letterboxed 16:9 sequence ‘within’ a 4:3 sequence.

  If you need an ‘unanamorphic’ sequence to play on the web for example, you then need to expand the x ratio. You can do this in Quicktime Pro quite easily

  I guess I’m confused at this point.

  You’re saying that all I do is edit in the 16:9 timeline. Create a 4:3 seq, drag the 16:9 sequence icon into the 4:3 seq Timeline and….. just render.

  Now……..at this point if I view on my NTSC monitor, I should see “letter boxed” with a proprotionally correct image….. CORRECT??????

  I’m not quite suure what you mean in your final statement. unanamorphic????

  Yes, I think Peter’s right. You are distorting twice and you don’t need to. Check it out on your video monitor and see what happens.
