Firstly, apologies if this is an old question, but I had a look through previous posts and couldn’t find anything.

Anyway. I currently have a PowerMac Dual 2.7, 3 Gig of memory, and a 400Gig HD.

I want to add another HD, partly as a scratch disk for FCP, but am unsure whether to just get any 7200rpm SATA drive, or if certain makes and models have proven to perform better with FCP.

All help would be appreciated! (Oh, and if anyone is going to post links to places selling suitable models cheap, please bear in mind that I am based in the UK)

I’ve never been a fan of internal drives for scratch disks. I have a second drive in my G5, but I only use it for graphic files.

I recommend external units like the G-RAID’s and Lacie Big Disk series.

    89 bucks!
awesome drive, just finished a 5 hr project without a hiccup
I actually trust an internal drive for a project like this because it was going straight to dvd-
