I’ve cut on FCP 4 for 2 years in my previous job and always had problems digitizing at lower res (ie: photojpeg, DV50 or other) and then onlining at full resolution. (Both in SD/Beta and DV). Upon onlining, I often found major slipage in my clips, especially when I had used speed change setting (but also just normal media).

It proved so time consuming to re-edit onlined sequences, that eventually we opted to just take in at full res initially.

Currently, I’m editing a documentary project where initial full res capture would be impossible due to necessary storage.

Has the media manager improved in FCP 5? Have people experienced similar problems? Is this software malfunction or user error?

I consider myself an experienced user and have read the media manager chapter over and over. This function is necessary for an edit system. If you have had success with Media managedr please let me know – or else I will be going Windows and Avid Xpress Pro. Please advise.

And thank you for your previous responses to my drive storage questions – always appreciated.

    Thanks,
    MIchael
