Recapturing an old sequence
I have an old sequence from last year that I need to recapture the footage on the timeline. But here’s my problem… the sequence is only about one minute in length and batch capture says that I have a total of about 17 minutes to capture. Yes…. my old footage was used in completely in aother program but I just needed a few small clips from that footage. How do I just capture the In and Out points instead of the media start and media end points? This is the first time I have run into this, so I need help to conserve space on my drives.

Right click on the sequence and select “make clips independent”. The use media manager to make an offline of the project. Batch capture in the new project and it will only grab what you need.

Joe – I went through your steps but when I batch capture in the new project, it still indicates it needs 24 GB – even though the actual sequence I’m trying to recapture is only 4 minutes…

Joel…. I have learned that FCP 5.0 has a real problem with estimating space needed. I’m digitizing IMX footage and FCP estimates the footage at about 5 larger than the actual captured footage. I would have to say that since this is not a major problem that it may not be fixed for a long time. So…. don’t bother with the estimated file sizes in FCP. Go with your gut and what you know it should actually take to capture using the codec of your choice.
