  • Walter, 1200A Question?

Posted by David on November 3, 2005 at 12:51 am

    Walter, Or anyone else . . .

Can the 1200A downconvert via the Firewire port AND send the standard HD SDI signal out the HD-SDI SIMULTANEOUSLY? I believe it can . . . but I need confirmation for an immediate edit.

    Thanks.

You mean to two different machines? If so…won’t they fight for control? You need TC, so I don’t see how this would work…but I guess we need to know why…what signal is going where? What are you doing?

Sorry Shane I was too brief.

I want to downconvert an existing 720P tape to SDdef DVCAM via Firewire, no sweat right. But I was wondering if at the same time the HD SDI outs are active so I can SIMULTANEOUSLY make a Hi Def dub to another deck.

Does that make more sense? Sorry, long day.

    Ah. Thank you. Much better.

I would THINK is should be able to do this, but I’d wait for Walter for confirmation.

    Yes. Should work just fine.

    David,

IF you want to maintain the HD dub (assuming it is another 720P copy you want to make)
you should dub across via firewire instead of HDSDI and avoid another generation of compression. If you are making a 720 copy I believe you may lose the frame flags during the dub.

In your case both the HDSDI and firewire downconverted outputs are active.

You will need to set the proper firewire menu for the downconvert to 4:1:1 to occur as well as setting the HDSDI output.
