  • Moving project fromFCP4.5 to FCP5

I started working on a project on FCP 4.5, we would like to continue work on an other system that has FCP 5. What problems could we run in to? We are just going to do some fine tuning and prepping for finish, no digitizing…

I’d run a search here to get more detailed info, cause this has been asked many times before, but here’s a quick run down:

First of all, my advice is DON”T UPGRADE YET!!! The rule of thumb is to never upgrade your core programs when in the middle of a project. There’s no telling what you’ll run into. Besides, most people here are either frustrated as hell that FCP5 is not as stable as 4.5 was, or they’re actually down grading to 4.5.

If you are dying to upgrade before you’re done with that project (and trust me, you may end up wanting to kill yourself for upgrading) duplicate your project and keep the original safe so you can go back if you need to. And be aware that many of your render files may get completely screwed. Almost every single sequence I have will render green artifacts into my sequence after I’ve opened it in 5.x. This has forced me to essentially “re-edit” my projects. – “re-edit” because the video was fine, and the graphics where ok, but as soon as I rendered them, I’d get horrible artifacts where ever a render was required; transitions, text, graphics, etc –

That’s just a few of the things you’ll want to look out for. Do a search and make sure you find the proper way to install!

    Good Luck!

    Cheers,
    Stone

I wasn’t going to upgrade but an other editor is going to finish the project and he has FCP 5. I will make sure that he downgrades before I hand him over the project… Thanks for the help.
