integrating 16:9 and 4:3 into one timeline
I am running FCP 4.5 on a G4 (500 dual coprocessor) using OSX 10.3.8. Working on a project in which I would like to integrate 16:9 footage with 4:3 footage (both captured in the field in this aspect ratio with a Panasonic DVX 100 AP). Is this possible? What problems can I expect to run into? How should I set my project up to avoid nightmares down the road? In a word, I need advice going into this experiment. Thanks so much in advance.

You’ll loose some or crank some…
If you want 4:3 and 16:9, and you want the 4:3 material to fill the screen, you basically have to edit in a 4:3 timeline and letterbox the 16:9 material. (Just mark the relevant clips as anamorphic and drop them into the 4:3 timeline. Quite often it looks better if you crop top and bottom of the anamorphic picture with one pixel)
Or… If you want a 16:9 anamorphic output, you’ll either have to crank the 4:3 photage (too much) to make it fit, or leave it nicely in the middle of the frame with black bars on the side.
Hm… That’s about it, I think…
